2019 – Sgt Slick’s unstoppable disco house cover of ABBA’s ‘gimme gimme gimme’ drops on vicious

In late 2019, long-time Vicious artist Sgt Slick started playing a bootleg remix he’d made of Abba’s huge hit single ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)’. Vicious A&R, Andy Van, instantly connected with Slick and a completely new vocal was recorded along with all new musical parts. The track was promoted in December of 2019, and immediately began building. Although an obvious pop hit back when first released, various ‘club’ versions were circulating the globe, all illegal reworks of the Abba version and all getting played from underground raves, to gay clubs and pop dance parties… the track just resonated for so many DJ’s playlists. Sgt Slick’s was the first to be cleared by the Abba writers for full release as a bona fide cover version and in the Australian summer of 2019/2020 ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ was literally the track played everywhere. A music video was filmed for the track with the creative team at Melbourne’s legendary club night Poof Doof , their performers teaming up with the label for a faux lip sync competition (see the clip below). Following the Aussie success, which also included a stack of mainstream radio play, the version was featured on The Blessed Madonna’s Radio Show and started gaining spot plays across Europe. To date it has had more than 15 million streams and has been certified Gold in Australia. In 2022 it is still getting played globally with the likes of Fisher, Joel Corey and Purple Disco Machine dropping the track in sets.

Super Disco Club, label founder Andy Van’s latest project with partner Cassie, has remixed “Gimme Gimme Gimme” for the 30 Years of Vicious compilation.
