2000 – Madison Avenue ‘Who The Hell Are You’

One week after ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ hit number one in the UK, Madison Avenue’s second single ‘Who The Hell Are You’ was released in their home country of Australia and quickly reached number one on Australia’s pop chart.  Madison Avenue had arrived in a massive way!

Madison Avenue’s ‘Polyester Embassy’ album, which featured the duo’s popular tracks, went on to reach number one in Australia, plus it included two other UK top 40 singles and four top 10 singles in Australia. Madison Avenue also collected 5 ARIA Awards at the 2000 ARIAs including ‘Single of The Year’.  Winning Australia’s top single for 2000 was significant for the dance music community as rock predominately took out the award in Australia. It inspired many dance music producers to make music and inspired many to look beyond the country’s borders when releasing music.

Interestingly, one of the ARIA Awards was for ‘Video of the Year’, where ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ and ‘Who The Hell Are You’ both tied to take out the accoldate.
