Andy J / Sgt Slick |
|
| Melbourne DJ Andy J has had great success over the last 5 years with his funkin’ house alter ego “Sgt Slick”. His debut release “White Treble Black Bass” won the ARIA Award in ’98 for Best Dance Release and was a global club hit. The follow up “Let It Ride” was also nominated for an ARIA in the same category, after becoming a massive club and radio hit in 2001.
As well as completing remixes for some of Australia’s top acts including Paulmac, Tina Arena, Deni Hines and Delta Goodrem, 2003 sees a pile of new Sgt Slick tunes approaching release. “Don’t Touch” has already torn the roof of clubs here and in the UK / Europe, and Andy has also collaborated and completed tunes with Groove Armada vocalist “Valerie M” and Una Mas / Defected vocalist “Lurine Cato” which are approaching release on Vicious. He also recently mixed the “Tinted: Global House” CD with LA’s “Deep Swing”.
As well as the Sgt Slick project, Andy is also involved in a number of other collaborations with Melbourne DJ / Producers including Blackout (with Vicious owners Andy Van and John Course, and Darren Glen), whose “Gotta Have Hope” was a worldwide chart and club hit, and Smash ‘n’ Grab. Under the latter name Andy produces the weekly mix show “LOADED” for the Austereo network, which goes to air Saturday night on over 50 stations across the country, including Fox FM in Melbourne and 2Day FM in Sydney, and reaches well over a quarter of a million listeners.
Along with all this Andy finds time to regularly spin his unique selection of funked up house at some of the nation’s biggest club nights, as well as holding down numerous Melbourne and interstate club residencies. He has played alongside heavyweights such as Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez and FatBoy Slim, and has rocked the floor at many of the Vicious Grooves club nights across the country.
