Ken Walker has been on the cutting edge of Australia’s thriving R&B scene for over a decade. Throughout this time he has been a pioneer on community radio presenting the “Soul Cruise” on PBS FM for 8 years before moving to Kiss FM’s “Da Joint” in early ’98. He also established Australia’s first true national R&B publication with Wayne Fernandez “WKD” which later evolved into “Wicked” which was the foundation for the success of Australian artists “Past To Present” “CDB” & Deni Hines and he currently is a feature’s writer for Melbourne’s Kandee Magazine. Ken has DJ’d in our leading clubs including The Basement, The Cave, Chasers, Inflation, The Metro, Silvers, Heat, QBH, Mercury Lounge. Redheads & The Odeon and he currently holds residencies at Sku Bar, Monsoon’s, The Next Blue, The Station Hotel, Salt & Silvers and has supported international acts including K-Ci & Jo Jo, Pink, Brian McKnight, Az Yet, Deborah Cox, Barry White, Incognito, Puff Daddy, Craig David, Shaggy, Fat Man Scoop, Nivea & Nelly Furtardo. 2001 has marked a new and exciting phase with Ken joining the Vicious Vinyl team (headed by Andy Van & John Course) and the establishment of Australia’s first true R&B based label “Vicious Urban” His first Vicious project “Dance R&B Anthems has been certified Gold and has so far sold in excess of 50,000 units and reached the coveted #1 position on both the HMV and Sanity Urban charts. Volume 2 was released late November 2001 and has already sold over 30,000 units. In June 2001 Ken was approached by the Austereo radio network to package a weekly 2 hour mixed Urban Show and “Jamz” commenced on air In July 2001 and is aired Monday nights 10 pm til Midnight and Friday/Saturday nights from 1am till 3am on 2 Day FM Sydney/Fox FM Melbourne/SA FM Adelaide & 929 FM Perth. And the show has been picked up by the Ace & DMG country networks and will commence from the start of the new financial year. In March 2002 Ken along with fellow R&B DJ Craig G were recipients of the prestigious Ravage Australia Testimonial awards for excellence & achievement in the Australian Dance Music Industry.
